We would like to tell you the story of our Collio, a place of wine, a mix of many cultures, home of the growers of vines among the best Friulian white wines. This area is characterized by an altitude and a type of soil perfectly suited to the cultivation of vines: we are talking about the Flysch known as Ponca, whose composition is made of marl and sandstone, which determines one of the best vegetative conditions for the vine plant . Characteristic condition in the area between Friuli, Slovenia and Istria; furthermore, the large temperature variations between day and night make the grapes and therefore the Collio wines so renowned and recognized internationally.
The particularity of these hills and plains, however, does not end here, this area is also known for a splendid variety of paths and walks to be tackled on foot, on horseback and by bike. You will be able to immerse yourself in the history, traditions and natural heritage that the small towns of Collio can offer, living an authentic experience in close contact with the community, in full respect of the nature that surrounds you.
Important points of interest on a naturalistic level between Cormòns and Zegla are Monte Quarin which, located above the town, offers a breathtaking view of the valley once you reach the top and you can see the ruins of the ancient Castrum. We also highlight the Vigne Alte route: a path of approximately 3 km that connects the Castello di Spessa with the locality of La Subida. The route is completely immersed in greenery, surrounded by vineyards and woods you can admire breathtaking views of our splendid Collio.
Moving south, 15 minutes by car, we find the capital: Gorizia, a name of Slovenian origin - Gorica - which means hill, diminutive of - gora - which means mountain. A medieval city which later belonged to Austria, it was the nerve center of trade and its increasingly strong bond which united Gorizia with Nova Gorica, its Slovenian twin, allowed the two cities to start a process of forming a single development pole . In fact, we remember that 2025 will be the year of the very important “Go! 2025 Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025”.
Let's not forget our seaside resorts: Grado, Lignano and Trieste, with their varied offer of leisure and culture.
